Spicewood
The Spicewood area is one of Central Texas’s most eclectic and beloved communities. The 78669 zip code, often jokingly referred to as “Spacewood,” is tucked into the Texas hill country on the shores of Lake Travis and the Pedernales River, just beyond the reach of Lakeway and Bee Cave.
With a proud history of individualism, much of Spicewood has maintained its quirky reputation, eschewing the manicured, uniform communities closer to Austin, in favor of a more native Texas landscape. Here, you will find modest homes homes sitting cheek to jowl with lakefront mansions, all coexisting happily as neighbors. It is this beautiful, largely untamed landscape where Willie Nelson has chosen to establish his estate at Luck, Texas.
Spicewood is also home to some of Central Texas’s most celebrated music venues and eateries. Roll down your windows as you pass Pootie’s Hilltop Cafe and you may just catch a few notes of the music of Texas legends, or legends-in-the-making, all played live and at the audience's fingertips. Such restaurants as Angel’s Icehouse, and Opie’s BBQ have long been staples of Central Texas cuisine, but don’t dawdle on your way to check them out; Opie’s is likely to sell out every last piece of meat by the end of the lunch rush! There is a burgeoning food scene down Hwy 71 as well, with fine dining, such as Apis, Wineries like Spicewood Vineyards and many other popular (relative) newcomers.
For those who prefer a more polished lifestyle, there are upscale communities too, offering residents and visitors golf, equestrian training, marinas, and the finest country club living, ensconced in the Texas live oaks that dot the hill country.
Straddling both the Lake Travis and Marble Falls School Districts, the area is the perfect place to raise a family with all the freedom afforded those who live in the country, but access to a great education!
